Friendly Book Tour # 1 - Swallow Magazine

Friendly Book Tour # 1

I started this blog because I love publications and had the experience of overseeing a magazine in college. When I graduated and was no longer creating something of my own, I started collecting creative publications to gather ideas in case another opportunity arrives . So far all the book tours on this blog are books from my personal collection. But many of my friends are also book collectors. They all have extensive libraries in a wide range of topics and focuses. I soon realized that I don't have to purchase all the books I want to photograph, I just have to raid, um visit, my friend's library. Here is to the first post of its kind.

My best friend, Diane, brought this book with her on our "staycation" and shared it with me while we were siting in my car waiting for my sister in Irvine. She got this publication as a gift. I just couldnt believe how perfect of a gift it was.
I wish I had gotten it for her (and maybe a copy for myself).

This is amazing.

Swallow Magazine is a pictorial art and food culture book based in New York.

The premiere issue is all about Scandinavia, my favorite European region of all time.
Swallow brings out the best of art, design, food and culture in a magazine format but with a hard cover and using only one ad sponsor.

Fruitful Monday

Avanti Cafe
259 E. 17th Street
Costa Mesa, CA

I can tell the woman who owns this place loves to
cook delicious vegetarian and vegan food for people.

We came in and she introduced us to her little cafe and allowed us to try some sides
with a metal spoon. I'm pointing out the metal spoon because instead of using plastic spoons
which increases non-biodegradable waste, she can just wash it and use it again. Even their napkins look eco-friendly (I've never seen napkin fibers like those). We ordered three "top-self" sides, one Avanti Magic Bruschetta (two organic scrambled egs, fresh vegetables, olives, baby greens, ricotta and Avanti cheese blend, nuts and severed on Avanti housemade toast), one edamame quiche with fresh greens and cashews, and two green tea sodas.

I left feeling fresh and full. Didn't get to try their desserts, gotta go back next time...

Got these at "Classy Seconds" thrift store for 10 bucks.
Most importantly, they fit!
Chris knows how many pairs of shoes I bought that do not fit well.
